Even Gamers Cry

I always refused to cry when watching movies, listening to music. And I had never imagined that a computer game could touch me emotionally. Well, that brutally changed with Final Fantasy VII. I hated Sephiroth. Because he was the Bad Guy. Then I learned more and more. And suddenly, I didn't hate him. I hated Shin-Ra. I liked the heroes. Because they were heroes. But then I learned who they were and why they were as they are. And most of all, I loved Aeris.
Then I see the most tragic of things. I lose my favourite character, and witness he being killed just before the world is saved. I am abotu to scream, to smash the screen, because I was helpless, I couldn't do anything. And I didn't see it coming. I cry. The first time I've cried because of any media. I cry, because Aeris died.
After that, I didn't know what to do. I tarried long, and saving the world seemed not so important anymore... It took me roughly 5 years, until I finally defeated Sephiroth...

Similar it was with Final Fantasy VIII. A cutscene, where Squall floats into space to save Rhinoa. I would have cried. But the phone rang. I hate phones, I hated them before that moment, but ever-after even more...

And Final Fantasy X. The final cutscene. Tidus fades away, and his fate therafter unknown. ... I didn't cry. But I did feel incredibly sad.

Well, ever since FFVII, I've let games touch me. I've let them make me angry, make me sad. Make me compassionate or uncaring. Make me feel guilty, or feel content with a choice.

Content with a Choice... like in God of War: Chains of Olympus. Kratos must slaughter the souls in Elysium. He must do it, or everything fades away. It's still a choice, to remain in Elysium, forget all worries.... or to accept his brutal fate, and save what remains.
It felt horribly wrong. But it was a choice that had to be made.

Heh. Even brutal and hardened gamers must cry.
